WHAT IS MODEL UN?

Model United Nations (MUN) is an academic organization in which students travel to collegiate conferences and compete against other high schools to speak, debate, and collaborate on a wide range of global issues. These issues may include nuclear disarmament, climate change, public health crises, and even emerging challenges such as the militarization of space. Mirroring the structure of the United Nations, participants work collectively to draft comprehensive resolutions that address the problems before their committees. Through this program, students develop confidence in public speaking, strengthen their ability to articulate ideas in group settings, and cultivate skills that remain valuable throughout their lives.

WHAT IS WILLIAM MASON MUN?

The William Mason Model United Nations Club is a student-run organization at William Mason High School committed to developing members’ public-speaking abilities, analytical thinking, and understanding of contemporary global issues. Students participate in conferences across the country, both virtually and in person, where they engage in structured debate and diplomatic collaboration. In recent years, the Club has attended conferences hosted by institutions such as the University of Michigan, the University of Chicago, Northwestern University, Washington University in St. Louis, the University of Notre Dame, and American University. In addition to traveling, the Club hosts its own annual conference, MasonMUN, each winter.

WHAT IS MASONMUN?

Mason Model United Nations (MasonMUN) is the annual conference hosted by the William Mason Model United Nations Club. Its primary mission is to cultivate a dynamic, engaging, and academically rigorous environment that embodies the educational and diplomatic principles of Model UN while promoting global awareness and civic engagement among all participants. MasonMUN is distinguished by its fully student-governed structure; every committee is thoughtfully conceptualized, organized, and executed by members of the William Mason MUN Club. Through this model, the conference seeks to enrich the delegate experience by fostering an immersive setting for debate, diplomacy, and collaborative problem-solving.
